Q. Is the cave open year round?

Marengo Cave is open year round, but does close for Thanksgiving and Christmas Day.


Q. What are your hours?

Marengo Cave Park operates on Eastern Daylight Savings Time.

Memorial Day - Labor Day weekdays: 9:00 am to 6:00 pm
Memorial Day - Labor Day weekends: 9:00 am to 6:30 pm
Easter: 12:00 noon to 5:00 pm
Rest of the year: 9:00 am to 5:00 pm


Q. How often are tours?

Both of our walking tours are scheduled as needed. A tour will be scheduled when tickets are purchased. Generally the wait is around 30 minutes. During the winter waits may be longer, but almost never exceed an hour. Our cave exploring trips must be scheduled two weeks in advance.


Q. Do I need to purchase tickets in advance?

Reservations are not required for show cave visitors.

Q. Is there an age limit?

No, there are no age limits. Children three and under go free.


Q. How can I get group rates?

Group rates are available for groups of 12 or more. A reservation and deposit are necessary in order to be eligible for group rates.

Q. How far are you from Louisville, Evansville, or Indianapolis?

  • Louisville: Approximately 45 minutes
  • Evansville: Approximately 2 hours
  • Indianapolis: Approximately 2.5 hours

Q. Can we bring pets?

Yes, pets are welcome inside the park, but are not allowed in the cave.


Q. Can I take a stroller or a wheelchair into the cave?

Unfortunately, no. The cave is not accessible to strollers or wheelchairs due to steps and narrow passageways. Baby front packs are allowed, but not backpacks.


Q. Is camping available?

Camping cabins are available for individuals and organized groups. Our on-site campground is available to organized groups of 12 or more. For individual camping we recommend O'Bannon Woods (812-738-8232) or Patoka Lake (812-685-2464).

Q. Are the tours difficult?

Both the Crystal Palace and Dripstone Trail Tour are easy walking tours with well lit passageways and minimal steps.


Q. How cold is it in the cave?

The cave maintains a year round temperature of 52 degrees. A light jacket may be suitable.


Q. What else is there to do while I'm in the area?
